Default XP Sharing and Loot Sharing

When a higher level character is trying to power level a lower level character, what are the requirements for the lower level character to get or share xp?

Hiding in the corner results in no xp. Dying seems to result in no further xp.
Specifically, I would like your ideas on power leveling a low level character in Pre-Searing Northlands? What is the minimum this character must do to share xp?

Similar question, how does loot sharing work. When does another party member get assigned loot? How close to they need to be, do or did they actually need to participate in fighting (pretty sure this is no).

Thanks in advance for your replies.

For loot sharing, you have to be in party range (i.e. your name not greyed out in the party screen).

See Here and here for loot scaling. See also here. For XP see here and here.

Both Wikis are your friend.

Another thing, you cannot powerlevel a lot in the northlands using the new high lvl enemies from the vanguard daily quests.Their level will automatically adjust to the level of the party member with lowest level. So there won't be much to gain there. Of course you can still get powerleveled from lvl1 to around 12 killing the regular charr with a high lvl friend.

Default Better Loot the first time in an area?

Now consider, farming the Northlands Bosses for Armor Insignia & Runes, Purple weapons, Charr Bags and Charr Salvage Kits.

My wife and I have 6 accounts, my toons are much higher level than her toons.
However, I noticed her drops are much much better than my drops.

Maybe I am not so much power leveling the newbie character on my wife's account as using them as bait for better drops.

I noticed a similar trend with Sunspear Armor Remnants, I get squat, but bring in a character that hasn't been there before and they usually get 2 or 3 remants after killing several Lords.

The must be something about toons new to an area getting better loot than toons who have exhausted the area after many days, weeks, months or play.

Nightfall challenges are limited to 5 remnants per character. Once your character gets 5, that character won't get any more.

Regarding the armor remnants, the drop rate is meant to decline significantly once you get your share (about four) as an anti-farm measure. Thus, someone who's never been there will tend to get them more often than someone who's been there before, at least until they get about four.

Regarding the drops in the Northlands, there isn't anything in what we know that would suggest lower level party members provoke better stuff to drop. You're going to need to do a lot of properly documented runs (at least 100 with and 100 without a lower level party member) to be able to make any definitive judgements. Don't forget about chance and confirmation bias.

EDIT: The above is false. The drop rate lowers but there is no limit.

Ohhhh, this is why I found no Charr Champions in the Northlands last night.

My pre char is a level 17 and my accompanying friend's char is a level 7.

I thought the quest had a glitch so we zapped back to Ascalon City after 45 minutes of fruitless searching.
